All About the Fun Run
We are so excited to kick off our 3rd Annual Fox Fun Run this week! We have lots of important information to share in the coming days and weeks. Here is an overview of what you and your student can expect. What is the Fun Run? The Annual HFES Fox Fun Run is our school's major fundraiser and runs for two weeks, ending in an exciting race event. This year's fundraiser kicks off on Wednes day, 11/1 and goes through the day of the big event on Friday, 11/17 . Our goal this year is to raise $40,000! All students will participate regardless of whether they fundraise and will run their race during their Specials period. Students who do fundraise will be eligible to win great prizes! What is the money used for? PTA funding provides important programming and resources that are not covered by CMS, state or federal funding, including classroom materials, Specials supplies and equipment (art, music, inquiry lab, physical education, science, and Spanish), school property beautification and repairs, technology upgrades, staff appreciation efforts, school celebrations like dances and International Night, student recognition programs, field trips and more. How do I and my student fundraise? Every student will have their own personalized fundraising webpage where family, friends, neighbors, local businesses – anyone you want! – can donate toward their total. They will also get their own rack card (like a business card) with a QR code that when scanned will go directly to their personal page – easy for anyone to scan and donate! We will be sending detailed instructions home along with their rack card on Wednesday, 11/1 and will also post them on ParentSquare. When does the Fun Run kick off? Students will attend an exciting kickoff pep rally on Wednesday, 11/1 where they will learn about fundraising and eligible prizes, what to expect on race day and most importantly, get excited for this fun event that brings our school and community together! The fundraising window is two weeks – from the pep rally to the race day. What will race day be like? On Friday, 11/17 all students (regardless of whether they fundraised) will participate in a Fun Run – a mini race during their Specials period. Students should wear weather-appropriate athletic clothes and shoes and will get a free Fun Run t-shirt to wear and keep. Stay tuned to ParentSquare for more important details the week of the race. How can I get involved? VOLUNTEER We need your help to make this year’s Fun Run a success! Whether you can help on the day of the race or in the weeks before or after – or even if you can only help from work or home, we have a job for you! SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER for one or more roles and timeslots! NOTE: All volunteers on school property must be CMS-approved. To register/get approved, visit cmsvolunteers.com. BUY A SHIRT Don’t forget to get your Fun Run t-shirt! All students will receive one for free but parents, staff, volunteers, siblings – anyone! – can buy one for $10. Place your order HERE by tomorrow, 10/31.

Low Performing Status
2520 Huntingtowne Farms Lane Charlotte, NC 28215 October 2, 2023 Dear Parent/Guardian, Legislation (G.S. §115C-83.15) passed during the 2013 long session of the North Carolina General Assembly provides parents with an additional measure of school performance in the form of School Performance Grades. Beginning with the 2013–14 school year, the annual North Carolina School Report Cards display a letter grade of A, B, C, D, or F for each school in the state. The School Performance Grades are based 80 percent on our school’s achievement score of 36.8% and 20 percent on students’ academic growth. At Huntingtowne Farms Elementary, our achievement score for the 2022-2023 school year is based on how well our students performed on Grades 3–8 Mathematics, Grades 3–8 English Language Arts/Reading, and Grades 5-8 Science. The purpose of this letter is to inform you that Huntingtowne Farms Elementary School, has been designated as a low-performing school by the North Carolina State Board of Education. As defined in G.S. 115C-105.37: “The State Board of Education shall identify low-performing schools on an annual basis. Low-performing schools are those that earn an overall school performance grade of D or F and a school growth score of "met expected growth" or "not met expected growth" as defined by G.S. 115C-83.15.” Huntingtowne Farms Elementary School received a School Performance Grade of D and a growth designation of Met Expected Growth for the 2022–2023 school year. Although we are committed to improving this score, it is important to remember that just as no one single score or grade tells the whole story of a student, neither does it tell you everything about the performance of a school or the opportunities that our school provides. As a low-performing school, we are required to develop an improvement plan that specifically addresses how the school will improve both the school performance grade and school growth score. The plan will also include how the superintendent and other central office administrators in the district will work with us and monitor the progress of our school. We are already engaged in the work of refining our plan and will present the plan to our school board at their next meeting, October 24th where the plan will be presented for approval. The final plan will be available for review on our school's website. One of our top priorities for 2023–2024 is to improve our School Performance Grade. There are a number of key programs we have in place to help improve student performance. These include: ALL teachers employ effective classroom management and reinforce classroom rules and procedures by positively teaching them. Instructional Teams develop standards-aligned units of instruction for each subject and grade level. The school implements a tiered instructional system that allows teachers to deliver evidence-based instruction aligned with the individual needs of students across all tiers. ALL teachers are attentive to students' emotional states, guide students in managing their emotions, and arrange for support and interventions when necessary. The school develops and implements consistent, intentional, and ongoing plans to support student transitions for grade-to-grade and level-to-level. A Leadership Team consisting of the principal, teachers who lead the Instructional Teams, and other professional staff meets regularly (at least twice a month) to review the implementation of effective practices. The school has established a team structure among teachers with specific duties and time for instructional planning. The principal monitors curriculum and classroom instruction regularly and provides timely, clear, constructive feedback to teachers. The LEA/School regularly looks at school performance data and aggregated classroom observation data and uses that data to make decisions about school improvement and professional development needs. The LEA/School has established a system of procedures and protocols for recruiting, evaluating, rewarding, and replacing staff. The LEA/School has aligned resource allocation (money, time, human resources) within each school's instructional priorities. The school regularly communicates with parents/guardians about its expectations of them and the importance of the curriculum of the home (what parents can do at home to support their children's learning). We hope you will closely follow your student’s academic progress and work with his or her teacher(s) to help ensure they stay on track academically. Working together as a team, we can improve not only how well our students are performing individually, but how our school is performing as a whole. There is nothing more important to administrators and teachers at Huntingtowne Farms Elementary School than ensuring students are ready for the next step in their academic careers. I look forward to working with you to make sure your student is on track for success. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our School Performance Grade and how we plan to improve, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Please review our School Improvement Plan on our website and fill out the Feedback Survey in English and Spanish . Sincerely, Jessica Rivas
